Using Gmail on a Sony Ericsson K800i

K800i: new toy thanks to the annual Orange free upgrade.

Interesting discoveries included the ablity to read RSS feeds (got that working once I switched the phone’s GPRS access from Orange WAP to Orange Internet) and the extended webmail access. I was able to use my very old, spam-flooded orange.net email address with my previous phone, the K750i, but other email services eluded me. Now, with the help of a straighforward tutorial post here, I have the K800i accessing my personal gmail account for send and receive, and doing it via SSL.

The most interesting aspect of this for me is posting images to my blog while out and about. This can be done via flickr’s live2blog capability which, when configured with your blog user’s login details, will take an image emailed to a specially generated flickr email address and immediately re-post the image and its title/description, to your blog. More info on how to get that up and running can be found in your flickr: Your Account > Email.
