Wow, some cool suggestions. I’ve just (literally a couple of days ago) discovered Lovecraft, and was freaked out by ‘The Lurking Horror’ and ‘Dremas in the Withc-House’. On a creepy scale, there’s also Roald Dahl’s ‘Skin’ – a short story which, although not horror as such, does make people shudder.
I have to check out some of the above titles tho.
Frightful Halloween (is ‘Happy’ an appropriate term!?)

@Mom – The Monkey’s Paw is W. W. Jacobs, I had the book as a child and it scared me rigid. Great story, but you won’t sleep for a week.

There is a short story buy Asimov that would be perfect. Can’t for the life of me remember the title but it invovled taxidermy!

I was going to vote for The Tell-Tale Heart, but realized that although it is a classic, it’s not really my favorite. I don’t know about the copyrights for my choices, but I’ll list them anyway because they are great stories. I highly recommend them to anyone who likes spooky tales.

l. I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream (Harlan Ellison). My personal favorite.

2. The Yellow Wallpaper (can’t remember author). Very unusual.

3. The Monkey’s Paw (can’t remember author). I expect this is familiar to some.
