Adam Curry Wants to Make You an iPod Radio Star
He’s gone from MTV to MP3, and now he’s leading a grassroots rebellion called podcasting. Why amateurs may soon rule the airwaves.
“People think I’m this poseur guy from MTV, but I don’t care,” says Adam Curry, the former VJ whose long blond locks once mesmerized teenyboppers across the globe. “I’ve always had this total dual life as a geek and a celebrity.” He pauses for a moment and flashes the signature Curry smile. He’s trimmed his mane and become an Internet entrepreneur, but he’s still got that swoon-inducing grin.
Wired 13.03: Adam Curry Wants to Make You an iPod Radio Star
I thought this was an interesting article, especially with the planned podcasting starting here very soon (see the pre-emptive podcast RSS feed link on the right). Though I’m not so sure that podcasting really will take off to the extent blogging has. After all, blogging now is almost no effort at all, whereas podcasting takes dedication, time and increased effort, and with most of the world not using iPods/iTunes combination, downloading and listening will remain more than simply a matter of connecting to an RSS feed.
Could we see an evolution of audio podcasting into video in the not too distant future?
With the photo-capable ipod and strong rumours of a Quicktime development team amongst the ipod software developers at Apple, it’s no big jump to expect video-capable ipods sometime down the line - they already have a colour screen. Seamless ease of download and play is the key to podcasting’s success, which is uniquely achieved with iTunes/iPod working so well together, so extending to video seems a natural evolution.
I’m not so sure it’s a great thing, though. One has to spend some time sifting through podcasts to get anything entertaining and/or interesting enough to warrant a regular RSS subscription - let alone a reasonable production quality. To have some of these clearly talentless, dull and negatively charismatic individuals actually visible makes me shudder.

I found a boo-boo on Apple’s iPod Store…
Today, the Apple Store team is hard at work modifying the iPod Store section for the product line reorganisation… but they missed something… (I feel like such a mega-dweeb for catching this…
)
Clearly, the wave of the iPod future is upon us, w…
