Is it just me who thinks the new Amazon Kindle ebook reading device looks like something you might come across advertised alongside incontinent pants, giant two-foot slipper, or extending grabbing arm, at the back of the Sunday supplements?
Really, design-wise, this looks like something out of the 80s computing revolution - particularly when you discover that rather than a backlit screen for reading in the dark, one has to use a swing arm attachment with a light. Great to see global companies at the forefront of product design.
OK so there’s far more to this device than first grates on the eye, and it is capable of being used for long periods of time to read books. But at $399, I’d much rather spend (less) hard-earned cash on one of these: Nokia N810

You are not alone. It’s pants. Plus when you realise you have to pay for a lot of the extra stuff - like email…

I did think that the kindle looked cool on first reading but I agree that the 810 is the way to go.

I agree with you, Neil. It looks very dated. Of course, I’d much rather hold a real book anyway. I like the way the pages feel, the smell of paper dust, the weight of the thing. I connect with books…I could never connect with that sterile piece of plastic.
