No, it’s not a code-name for the next TableRappers book, but the arrival of a critical decision point.
In typically ADD-brain type activity, I have once again taken on too much in too short a time. It’s a viscious circle to which, I suspect, many readers of this blog can relate.
Ideas, and potential projects abound, and the next shiny and temptingly sweet prospect delivered via the internet grabs one’s attention and refocuses a little of one’s activity. Piece by piece, larger projects lose to smaller ones leading to the inevitable degradation of the amount of energy applied to what is important.
I reached that stage this week in a very big way.
It is not unfamiliar, however, and as I know how to deal with it. The frustration for me is triggered by the lack of awareness that overload is approaching. Each distracting step is small, enough to go almost unnoticed in the hectic day-to-day activity. Eventually, the task lists for those insignificant projects is overflowing, while that of the larger projects are all overdue. It is a vicious circle of scrabbling at the new under th illusion it will help drive the old. Invariably it is at the cost of the old.
Work commitments are about to increase, too, as my responsibilities and targets change - thankfully to far more focused and defined activities (at last!).
So as we saunter into the Summer months - with a brolly under one arm just in case - it is time to simplify and consolidate, and return to having a little time to just sit and read a book purely for the pleasure of it once in a while.
I’ve updated my GoDaddy coupon code list page with a bunch more coupons covering pretty much anything you want from GoDaddy.
But in more important news…
GoDaddy has just announced that it has now handled over 30 million domain registrations. Bob Parsons, GoDaddy.com’s CEO said:
“These numbers really demonstrate how the Internet is alive and well, even in these rough financial times. We knew from the start… helping make it easy and affordable for people to get online would make a difference. That’s why we developed products our customers wanted, priced them right and then backed them up with personal customer service… and, well the rest is history.”
Go Daddy has a 45 percent market share of active, new domain names and is nearly three times the size of its closest competitor. Often running controversial advertising, and this whole coupon code market, have made valuable contributions in building their global business, despite the criticisms they often take for how they promote - often the price of being so prominent.
What was the 30 millionth domain registered? RulesOfSaving.com - a reflection of our current economic climate perhaps?
Logging in to check progress of a recent sale on ebay this morning I got this interesting message. On the surface it looks like a good way for ebay to have confidence it is indeed you that is placing products for sale in their listings. But this may be more about appearance than real security.
Confirming your identity is easy. We’ll make an automated call to one of the phone numbers on your account - you can choose which one. If you can’t receive a call at one of those numbers, you’ll be able to add another number by answering your secret question, or verify your identity with us in Live Chat.
I had my ebay account compromised a little while ago, with the hacker placing several small items in listings (this meant I would end up paying the listing and selling fees). Ebay’s security system caught it and locked my account down while they dealt with it - thus I was not out of pocket.
When any account - ebay or otherwise - is compromised the hacker has access to your account details, including your contact details. With knowledge that ebay is likely to make a phone call to double check the identity of the user, surely the first thing the hacker will do is change the contact information in the account so that he is the one receiving the security call, not you.
I suppose I should have some trust in ebay that they have considered this eventuality, perhaps by detecting account contact information changes just before a listing, or region/country code changes in the contact phone numbers. I do hope so otherwise this additional measure becomes impotent.
NewTeeVee is reporting that in a conversation with eMusic CEO, David Pakman, the online subscription music download service is looking at expanding into video.
Continuing the company’s policy to distribute their audio content free of DRM limitations, they are similarly for video. Pakman notes, however, with the current market for paid television content it may take a year or more for eMusic to woo the studios into their DRM-free world. With very few independent video production entities around, the ‘big boys’ may be eMusic’s only viable hope.
Market forces are likely to drive the deal and Pakman is apparently optimistic in the light of “declining DVD sales, peer-to-peer file-sharing, and the ease of downloading streamed content”.
