Celtx updated

I first mentioned Celtx, the free screenplay editor and other bits and bobs, back in November. I finally managed to download and take a look at the latest release 0.9.5 and the developers have added more goodies.

Added to the functionality are a straightforward document navigator, story development tools and a simple project schedule capability through a shared calendar.

It’s the story development tool which interests me most. I have used Power Structure for this for a good few years and although Celtx doesn’t even come close to Power Structure’s specialist capability, for smaller projects Celtx might win over by combining the development and screenwriting in a single application. Oh if only Final Draft and Power Structure would integrate…

They have also cut the need to have a live internet connection at startup. The Google search integration insisted on connecting to the Google home page each time you booted Celtx, which made the application hang for a minute or more if you were not netted-up at that time.

Although it still does not have the feel of a polished professional application, Celtx is already a very capable and usable tool, and it’s still not even at version 1. Most certainly something to keep an eye on.

OK- you finally got me to look at this app. I must say that I’m impressed! Of course, I’m not a screenwriter and have never used Final Draft… But, my writing course will require me to do some sample writing for TV and film, so this might be the way for me to dabble.

    Thanks for the tip!
