Writely.com
Adrian Pegg introduced me to Writely.com as a means of collaborating ideas, notes and info for this year’s PodcastconUK 2006. It is a very easy to use online collaborative word processor (still in beta) which allows creation of rich text documents which can be shared between different users.
I originally felt it had relatively limited appeal and use until I logged in this morning to discover a new ‘Blog’ control tab in the main menu. This tab enables a document created with Writely to be posted directly to a blog (as was this post). Writely immediately became a great deal more useful to me. Though there are limitations such as only one blog connection setting per user, no category selection ability (unless I missed it) and once posted there is no ability to change the writely document and have that change applied to the blog as an edit, but it’s a great start.
I am involved with a couple of projects where some colaboration is required to create blog posts, and it looks like writely, which even in beta seems to be a strong and stable environment in which to work, could become a very important tool. Oh, and it’s free.
