In a switch from the way most companies treat their existing customers while enticing new ones, eMusic seems to be rewarding their loyal, existing customers with the price increase.
eMusic’s basic membership plan for new users - the cheapest - has already increased from $9.99 to $11.99 ($10.99, ‚Ǩ13.99) per month, offering up to 30 music track downloads. This equates to 40 cents per track. Existing members will see the price increase from July 17, 2008, but will have an additional 10 music track downloads per month. This brings the per track price down for existing basic plan subscribers from 33 cents to 30 cents.
The price increase affects Basic Plan subscriptions only, with the more expensive options remaining unchanged. The premium plan, for example, remains at $20 per month, giving up to 75 mp3 downloads - 26 cents per track.
