How cool is this…
Jen is flying back from her week back in Wisconsin, so I discovered I can track her flight in real time using Google earth. Here’s a pic of flight AA90 just coming over south Wales and heading straight for the little dot in the distance at Heathrow.
I found this at Aeroseek Webtrax. Just pop the flight details into the search form and there should be a Google Earth icon link on the following page (which itself displays flight tracking info, though nowhere near as cool as Google Earth).
In Addendum: It seems that only flights with North American origins or destinations are trackable in this way, which seems to be the case for most flight trackers (thanks to Richard for pointing this out - see comments)

It is a really great feature - certainly shows quite what a powerful engine is hidden away in Google Earth!
Interesting features to note is that the link in Google appears to be tied to a flight number - so without any intervention it will track tomorrows AA90 too. The only thing that is a bit of a pain is that it also only appears to work for flights that are to or from North America - I tried it on some internal UK flights, and flights in from Australia, and it wouldn’t locate them.

I found that most of the flight tracking stuff online is tied into North American flights, so I’m not surprised -perhaps they do more tracking than other parts of the world and allow more open access to the data. Still, a superb feature of Google Earth.
