I’ve been brave

After posting the rough watercolour sketch of the volcanic rocks in the sea at Pedra Furada, Madeira (last post, below), I plucked up the courage to put up the rest of the drawings and sketches I did while out there, on my Flickr account.

These works are highly personal, produced for more for me than anything/anyone else. So presenting them to the world like this is, believe it or not, a bigger and more difficult decision for me than getting up in front of a hundred people and not being funny. Odd that. You may like one or two, you may dislike them all, but that is partly the point. For a moment you may just grasp a hint of my most personal relationship with the physical time during which each was created. At the very least, having them posted up means I’ll get to see them more often than tucked away in a sketchbook on a shelf.

    Neil, I love ‘em!

I really wish that I could draw and I’m always in awe of folks who can.

Paul, you CAN draw; you merely have to get over the natural tendancy to measure your own work against others. Your work is your work.

It’s weird because I’m arty, I love calligraphy, music etc etc… but my drawing is shameful. My art may be purchased by some plonkers who think I’m a modern arty type, but your stuff has lovely perspective and is something I’d seriously hang in the office / lounge. Mine… erm… isn’t!

Thank you, Paul, that is a very encouraging compliment.

The good thing about your blog entries lately Neil are that I’m seeing a side to you I haven’t ever seen before.

I meant to tell you how much I enjoyed the Blues stuff too - I’d not seen that one coming either!

That’s what you get for me making some room in my life to do things other than work ;)

I used to have a two-hour weekly blues show on Live365 a few years ago - way ahead of podcasting, so for me a blues related podcast was almost inevitable.

Check out Paul Rose Neil - awesome player from Newcastle. He’s on the PMN, but I have some tracks I can send to you too. There’s some video of him playing live on my blog somewhere…
