Another Mac Expo, another fat pile of sexy new toys. But somehow I just don’t have the geek enthusiasm I once did.
Don’t get me wrong, for the most part I love Apple products - as I’ve said many time I am measurably more productive using Macs compared to Wintel - but I am far more focused on what the technology allows me to do than the technology itself. My beloved powerbook enables me to do all the things I need to do to pay the rent.
I am not even close to being ready for a new machine just yet, nevertheless it would be a brave man who shells out hard-earned money on a first generation machine with a new chip. Admittedly time has moved on now, but the appearance of a new powerbook - now called MacBook Pro - rekindles memories the sometimes turbulent transition to power PC chips back in the mid 90s. Let things settle. Let the early adopters iron out the problems first. I am glad my powerbook is not a year old as yet, so upgrading will not be an options until after the new technology settles in to a nice, warm pair of fuzzy slippers.
