News: Gervais to podcasts

I like The Office - in fact I’d go so far as to say it’s close to a genius creation; the right tone at just the right time. But outside the Brent character, I find Ricky Gervais wholly irritating. Watch any interview with him, and you’ll soon realise that Brent/Gervais are one and the same and that disappoints me so much it turns me off his comedy.
I’ve watched his standup and find it clumsy, forced and entirely lacking in comic timing. Without The Office in his legacy, this man would never have made his way up through the standup comedy circuit. It’s a shame. I want to like him; I just can’t. Maybe one day I’ll meet the guy and change my mind - that’s always a joyful occasion (similar experience with Ikea springs to mind)
But now, he’s going to podcast. There goes the neighbourhood.
