Despite some initial trepidation, I survived BBC radio experience.
I’m not going to give you a blow by blow account of what happened, because a certain American girl does just that much more eloquently than I: Jen’s BBC visit report (including images). Everyone over at BritCaster generated some excitement leading up to the discussion and it was a little strange to think so many people would be listening in - at least if I mess up half way through a podcast I can edit it out. But the feedback has been excellent - thanks everyone!
I was initially brought in to the discussion on a non-BBC, ‘average person does podcasting’ level, but after a heavy conversation with the researcher they elevated me a little higher to more of an outside semi-expert on podcasting. I’ll admit that felt good.
Answering the first questions right at the start and right after the break gave me some indication that a non corporate viewpoint was important, and Simon Mayo’s personal interest in the subject was clear both during the live discussion and off air afterwards. I hope I did something to bring awareness of podcasting to a few listeners and perhaps introduce one or two to give either listening or producing a go.
Five live asked me to produce a 2 minute audio ‘idiots guide to podcasting’ which is currently available from their website at Five Live podcasting intro and the Simon Mayo podcasting discussion is available online for a limited period at Five Live podcasting discussion.
A special prize goes out to anyone who can spot the exact moment in the discussion when the word ‘podcasting’ was temporarily erased from my consciousness.
