Spammers concerned about their karma?

Spammers concerned about their karma?

I’ve spent a little time yesterday doing simple, post-illness-recovery(info here), non-taxing tasks such as removing wads of spam from the BritCaster wiki – what fun.

I thought I’d cleared it all up, but after rummaging around for advice online about discouraging future attacks, I came across one article describing a new technique being used about hiding spam with CSS. Oh dear, now there was a whole bunch more to delete!

But the one spam which inspired this post came from a group calling themselves the Ethical Spammers group. Here is what they posted above the list of spam links:

<!– We leave content intact . We allow you to easily remove the additions . –>
<!– We respect your pages and appologize for the spam . –>
<!– We are the Ethical Spammers group .
(this is an oximoron – two terms that are put together but are opposed meaning) . –>

Poor little spammers with a guilt reflex. Awww, ain’t that sweet.

So they’re saying it would be OK if someone pelted their house with eggs, as the additions we’ve made are easy to remove? :)

I’ll have to take issue with you there, Alden, as it depends on how long the eggs remain there until an attempt is made to clean them away. As the painters of old discovered, egg yolk can stick like the proverbial extra-sticky sticky stuff and oh how I would hate for them to have to exert more than a brief wipe to return their abode to its former guilt-free spamming sparkle – I would not be able to sleep at night. ;)
