Steve’s there again

Once more Steve Jobs and the latest in the iPod lineup are on the cover of Time Magazine.

The article talks about Apple’s philosophies towards product design and development and how Mr. Jobs’ no compromise attitude helps to ensure products end up as good as their initial design concepts.

What stood out most for me was this quote about the release of the latest video capable iPod:

“There is no market today for portable video,” he says. “We’re going to sell millions of these to people who want to play their music, and video is going to come along for the ride. Anyone who wants to put out video content will put it out for this. And we’ll find out what happens”

A global company developing and releasing a product before there is a viable, measurable market for it? That has got to be a rare thing, but an aspect of Apple’s personality that has been around for many years. The bandwagon specialists ought to be very grateful.
