TableRappers - the prelude episode

I have been playing a little catch-up this past week on my writing and development schedule for TableRappers. Today (Sunday) was to be the recording of the prelude episode audio, to offer time to mix and mess with it this coming week, prior to release next weekend. This is a huge learning process, which means things have not gone entirely to plan.

I was still fighting with the written text of the prelude episode late last night. The hand written first draft put together over the past three months or so foolishly did not include this initial chapter. Why not? Because some years ago I had already written it, so I felt it was not necessary to rework at that point. However, when I finally delved into that old text… all I can say is it was awful. Less the opening prose of a novel, and more a “list of stuff that happened”. I cannot quite believe I wrote such dribble. So, the process of finalising the audio script for the prelude episode was pushed back from Friday to Saturday.

Sunday and it is time to record. The process was interesting to say the least. I’ve mentioned in a previous post about (I think) about how reading the writing aloud changed the way I saw it. This highlighted clumsy sentences, awkward word structures, and shouted out a few real problems with what I had written. This is good, right? Well, good when there’s time within a schedule to make adjustments!

So things are still a little behind. But if the episode needs rewriting, then it needs rewriting, simple as that.  Despite the rather deflating feeling of not achieving the self impose deadline this weekend, I’m rather pleased that the problems in the text have come to light. What is interesting is that in order to do so I had to read the text aloud and listen to it back. So there’s my top tip for the day.

The production schedule to December has now been tweaked to allow more time to make final edits and to get the text to a point ready to read out loud as early as possible. This process will certainly be part of the development of these books, and who knows, perhaps also my future works.

I am trying to work out how to market/sell my photos/prints/greetings cards/postcards/calendars online. I doubt that I can use etsy because they are not hand printed. I may end up just using ebay. Let me know if you have any better ideas! ;-p

P.S. I know he is great and all but, did you know you have the hubby twice in your “go read” section to the right? ;-p

I wish JK Rowling had the same sentiments as your second paragraph for the “I wote the last chapter of Harry Potter at the start…”
