There seems to have been a recent rush of podcast businesses. Small and large companies alike are springing up with the remit to produce podcasts for other business and make a fat lump of cash in return. But how many of these are actually doing the business they are making so much noise about?

I cannot honestly say it’s been the greatest struggle ever, but it has been a time of great deliberation about what Linked Media will offer podcasters.The company works to bridge the gulf between podcasters and content providers (i.e. mobile networks, mobile content channels (both referred to as ‘distributor’ from now on), etc. - note the use of the word mobile more than once).From face to face discussions I have already had, the mobile space is looking for more content and looking at podcasting as a source of that content…. It is certainly forward thinking, way forward in fact because right now the broad take-up of podcasts over mobile networks is severely stifled by the cost of mobile bandwidth.When the cost does come down - and it will, whether it be in a month, two months or a year - we hope Linked Media will be in a strong enough position, with perhaps some content supply deals already in place, to help get the podcasters out there.

It centred around the kickoff meetings for Audacious’ first major project to develop a podcast and social media promotional campaign for one of the top specialist academic and scientific search products.Until today everything seemed a touch vague on exactly how this might be accomplished, but several hours working with the client has solidified the concept and offered some strong ideas and focused plans.With the virtual world so easily accessible, it is far too easy to forget the importance of face to face meetings…. Thankfully after today, however, I feel as though I am swimming in slighly shallower water.Can of caffeine laden drink at the ready for the drive home.UPDATE (May 23 06): I knew I was back in the UK by a big chunk of the Gatwick arrivals terminal being uncarpeted revealing angle-striped emergency tape and rough concrete flooring (sheer class, that), the men’s toilet stinking of urine, and that perfect end to a tiring day: the post relief warm trouser thigh moistness of poorly designed urinals.
