There’s a reason we’re going back to Madeira

madeirasketch1.jpgYes, that place is real and no, there has been no enhancement to that photo. The area so stunned me that I had to sit and sketch it there and then (the sketch is to the right - click to view large version) - sketching always provides a more personal and intimate experience of the subject than photography, and I feel a much stronger connection with that place as a result of the sketch. More of jEN’s superb Madeira shots on her Flickr page.

Google Maps has been doing some work on the Madeira images (no road map data yet however.
Some notable places (for us at least):

Pssssst… listen out for our Madeira holiday diary starting in a few days… Short and Fuzzy.

My two favs on your Flickr page are the Hotel and the Taxidrivers. I also think your pre-watercolor of the coastline will make a good painting.

The watercolour I did after that pre-sketch is not quite complete. I want to re-visit a few areas of it and fix some aspects which I’m unhappy with before posting it up online. Volcanic rock is mighty tricky to capture as its texture is a mess of folds, crumples, and weathered clumps!
