Given the long standing intrenchment of Quark in the publishing world, it is hardly surprising, yet deliciously ironic, that the recent Wiley Publishing book Adobe InDesign cs Bible, written by Glenn Gruman was actually originated in Quark!
According to the story on QuarkvsInDesign.com, a pre-trim sample chapter PDF which appeared on CreativePro.com, revealed the amusing twist when its cropmarks information included the filename “ch05.qxd”.
It’s nothing more than a curio, to be honest, as a long standing publisher like Wiley will inevitably have a fixed requirement for book artworks and unable to accommodate a new file format for just one book. As with many publishing houses they are still back at Quark 4, thanks to Quark’s crazy ideas about releasing expensive, meaningless upgrades with version 5 and now version 6 with only the backwards save capability to version 5, it certainly does not encourage established Quark publishers to invest in coming up to date.
Quark, of course, are calling this a coup; when it is no advertisement that they are clearly unable to covince their high profile users to upgrade through the past two versions!
