WordPress 2.0 breaking image/file uploads

With the installation of Wordpress 2 (hot here, an experiment elsewhere) I, like countless others, discovered changes in the Wordpress XMLRPC meant image uploads from 3rd party blogging clients were failing.

I use Ecto - though I believe others are experiencing the same problems - and it was disappointing to see the Wordpress developers releasing a new product clearly without testing properly. They have integrated some lovely AJAX enabled online post creation and editing, but many bloggers use offline editors to manage the post content.

Thankfully the fix is just a matter of tweaking two lines of code in a single PHP file - and the next Wordpress update will have the problem solved, apparently. You can find the fix here: ecto: WordPress 2.0 breaks upload (fixes), and it seems to work just fine.

Still some issue of not having control over where the file upload is stored, but for me that’s a problem I can live with.
